Margaret Thatcher Library (MTL) is one of the largest libraries in East and Central Africa, designed and constructed as an ultra-modern university library. It has a sitting capacity for 4,000 readers and one million volumes of print materials. It also accommodates School of Information Sciences.
Margaret Thatcher Library is fully automated and currently serves staff and students population of 12,000 members. An average of 6,000 entrants into the library is experienced on a single day and therefore some of the users can’t get sitting space compelling them to sit outside on the open lawns as they access WIFI internet services, wait to attend lectures, group discussion on academic matters socialize and relaxation during lunch time.
Mounting of ‘students discussion benches’ at the lawns of Margaret Thatcher Library has assisted greatly as WIFI can be accessed from outside among other activities. 2017 saw the accomplishment of this short term project.
